Neurosurgery has long been established in Malaysia since 1962. Due to the increasing demand for neurosurgical services in East Malaysia, neurosurgery services in Sabah were started in 2002.

Persatuan Akademik Neurosurgeri Sabah (PANEUROS) / Sabah Neurosurgery Academic Association was established in 2016 by the neurosurgery community in Sabah with the aim to boost and promote neurosurgical training & education in Sabah by actively venturing into the depth of neurosurgery knowledge & skills. Its members consist of neurosurgeons, registrars, trainees, medical officers, medical assistants, and nurses who are working in the neurosurgery department.

It strives to plan and execute various neurosurgical programmes while collaborating with various national and international neurosurgical bodies for the benefit of neurosurgery in Sabah. Since its establishment, it has organized various regional and national level activities, meetings & conferences.
